Job 24:24-25

“They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn. And if it be not so now, who will make me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth?”

There are many in the world today, sitting at the top of their respective areas, enjoying their definition of “success,” but ignoring their Creator. Political oligarchs are raping their economies for personal gain and power. Religious zealots are bullying and exploiting others for their own glory. Corporate czars are ravaging the marketplace for financial supremacy. It seems like they are winning these cultural wars with impunity. Their exaltation is temporary, however. Eventually, they will be gone and brought low. They all know this, yet they continue struggling to get more: fame, prestige, money, control, and power. Those who live without God are racing to a dead end. They see the emptiness that looms before them, but they grab everything they can before they reach the abyss. What makes them so desperate? What will all their success be worth when they stand before their Heavenly Father?
