1 Corinthians 1:17-18

1 Corinthians 1:17-18“For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”

What has Christ called you to do? Have you been sent to a specific place, or a specific person or group, to share the Good News of God’s undying Love? How will you tell them about salvation without the wisdom of words? What is the difference between preaching the gospel and preaching the cross? How could your words make Christ’s sacrifice ineffective? Look at the wisdom Eliphaz spoke in yesterday’s passage. How could these ideas lead someone astray? What is Paul’s main focus in everything he writes? Does he believe baptism is not important, based on what he said above? Where is the true power of salvation? Baptism? Prayer? Church attendance? Tithing? Worship? Tradition? Denomination? Bible translation? All of these have been abused to cause divisions among believers. What would happen if ALL who claim to follow Jesus simply focused on the cross of Christ?
